Boy Concepts

Here is some clothing concepts i am thinking of, I kinda just through them on a loose concept for the boy, please mess around with them and tell me what i need to change.

well, for starters this bb cuts off images. did it to a bunch of mine, too. I like the upper right and leftmost one in the middle row.

I second bottom right. I like the straps.

try more stuff with, "the boots with the fur." I like those

if you click on the image it should open it in a new tab at least thats what it does for me and sure thing about the boots.

Maybe now's a good time to introduce the "Perfection Game." Perfection Game is used to give specific feedback in an organized way about someone's work. This way, instead of giving vague feedback like "that's great" or "I hate it", you can address the specific points you think are working well or need improvement.

Perfection Game follows a certain format. You start by giving the piece a score out of 10. Then you talk about the things you like about it, or whatever is working well. Finally, you say what, in your opinion, the artist would need to change about the work in order to get a perfect "10."

The center design on Nyssa's sheet is my favorite, so I'll use that one as an example of how the Perfection Game looks:



I give the design a 6 out of 10.


What I like about the design:

-It has really nice weight and rhythm to it. Kinda hard to explain, but the proportions of the different pieces of his design feel right and appealing.

-The hat is interesting and not your typical "eskimo" style hat

-The large boots give grounding to the character, being larger and a bit bulkier

-I like his skinny legs

-In general, I think the silhouette is really strong


To get a 10 from me:

-The coat kind of bugs me. It looks like a girl's coat because it cuts off above the midriff. I would say make the coat longer.

-I know these are just preliminary designs, so when you take the designs to the next level of finish, try adding patterns or designs to the coat/shirt area.

-Although I like the hat, try playing around with other hat designs/types too. Maybe some other design could be even better.



Can't wait to see the next round of designs! Does the Perfection Game make sense? I'd really like it if we all started using it to give critiques. I think it'll really help us all.

Here are some more rough concepts i did and am just now getting up, sorry for the delay it has been a rough week for me...

Nyssa, you should try playing with other silhouettes of the boy and different shapes. I like the different hats.

i am just going to post stuff as i work on it so i don't forget, here is some stuff, i different silhouette and me messing with a little color, oh and some friend sketches

Love the 2 friend drawings on the left. Think the color might be plussed with a touch of red on his nose and cheeks.

Yes! I love the top two images. And I think the one on the top right would be my favorite design for the boy (so far) if you used the face from the bottom middle one.

Also digging the colors. Good stuff!

Plugging away at this, i am not entirely sure what kind of drawing style we are going for so i am trying some different stuff

I don't know how anyone else feels, but I think the bottom design on that last image is the ONE. I'll perfection game it....


I give this a 9.5 out of 10.


What I like:

-The silhouette is strong and has bold shapes to it (particularly in the legs/feet area)
-His facial features look appropriate for eskimo/ice-dwelling cultures
-I think he's wearing a hat, right? I like the combination of the hat with tassels and the fur collar
-Overall, the style and his features are visually appealing

To get a 10 from me:

-The interior details just need to be refined and clarified
-The right colors will make this perfect!


That's my opinion. What does everyone else think?

Like: The overall keyhole shape of the character. The soft broadness of the face. The whole outfit is good.

It'd be a 10 if the legs were a tiny bit thicker.

I am going to agree with randy

I would give this a 9/10

I like the over all silhouette
I like the clothing
I like his overall shape

to get a 10 from me

I would say thicken up the legs a little
Add some more elements from the clothing research to his clothing (some of the style too I like that)
